Feasibility analysis of PV/wind/battery hybrid power generation: A case study

Ali Saleh Aziz

Abstract

Depletion of fossil fuel reserves, unpredictable fluctuation of diesel prices, and global warming issue have motivated numerous countries to produce new policies for energy that engorge the utilizing of alternative energy sources. Renewable energy resources like solar, hydro, and wind are clean and have potency to be more widely used. Integration of these sources together with back-up units can produce a better clean, economic, and reliable power for all loads conditions as compared to single source systems. The feasibility study of using integrated energy system to supply electric energy for remote rustic school in the southern part of Iraq is investigated in this research paper. In order to carry out the feasibility study of the hybrid system, HOMER software has been employed as a tool for the technical, economic, and environmental assessments. The analyses of the optimal energy systems are explained in details to find the most feasible off-grid system and compared with the options of extension to the grid and diesel generator system.
